4 Signs You Need Car Brake Replacement

It doesn’t matter how fast your vehicle can go; if it can’t stop, then you’re in real trouble.  That’s why it’s important to know when you need car brake replacement or repair

Some of the more common signs of trouble include:
1. Screeching or grinding brakes – Don’t mistake this for squealing brakes, which are common in newer vehicles.  When brake pads become seriously worn, they’re designed to let the driver know by emitting a loud, highly unpleasant noise that sounds like a high-pitched shriek, or sometimes like a grating noise.  If you notice noises like this coming from your front wheels, get your car into a qualified brake mechanic immediately.

2. Pulling to one side when braking – Your car should come to a stop evenly across the front wheels when you apply the brakes.  However, sometimes the driver may feel a tug to the left or right instead.  If this is the case with you, then your brakes or other components need adjusting.  Come see us right away if this occurs.

3. Brake “fade” – This may happen when you’re holding the brakes in for a prolonged period of time, such as when going down a steep hill.  The brakes will seem to lose stopping power the longer you use them.  You may also notice a burning smell.  If this is the case, then you need to get your car off the road as soon as you can safely do so, and give your brakes enough time to cool down.  If it happens again after the brakes have cooled down, then get your vehicle into a shop right away.

4. Brake “chatter” – This refers to a bouncing or vibration in the brake pedal when you step on it.  This may indicate a problem with your brakes, wheels, or suspension components.  In any event, you should have the car looked at right away.
