Summer’s Coming Up Fast: See an AC Mechanic Now!

Here in Texas, you need AC year round. Even in the dead of winter, you could wake up in your warmest flannels only to find a bright, sunny, 70- or even 80-degree day ahead of you. As we inch closer to summer, those days will come more and more often. Soon, they’ll creep into the 90s, then the 100s, and in some areas of the state, even upward of 110.

If you don’t want to put yourself or your family in danger, it’s vital that you see a qualified AC mechanic now. You see, as much of a nuisance as the searing Texas heat is, it’s not just the uncomfortable sweating and stickiness that’s the problem. The soaring temperatures can actually cause a plethora of health problems for you and anyone you drive with if you’re not careful. It can hurt your car too!

It can cause:

  • Heat exhaustion This begins with what are called heat cramps, causing your muscles to spasm and cramp up. It then progresses to overall weakness, vomiting, lightheadedness, and headaches.
  • Heat stroke If heat exhaustion isn’t dealt with promptly, it can turn to heat stroke, a very serious health hazard that can cause seizures. Heat stroke also causes confusion, disorientation, and in some cases, a coma.
  • Heat rash Not nearly as bad as heat exhaustion or stroke, a heat rash causes red bumps on the skin, itching, blisters, and inflammation.
  • Overheating of your engine If your car isn’t properly cooling, it can cause the engine — or parts of it, at least — to overheat, stop working, or even catch fire. This can cause even more damage (and more expenses) and put your health in further danger.

A properly maintained car AC is vital to protecting yourself, your loved ones, and your vehicle from adverse heat reactions. Are you sure your car’s system is up to snuff? Come see an AC mechanic at Brake Works today to be sure!
